At BTO 2025 in Florence, the air had that familiar charge that makes this event unlike anything else in Italy. BTO has spent more than fifteen years turning digital tourism into a living organism, a place where ideas collide, where people learn by exposure rather than instruction, and where new projects seem to appear almost by spontaneous combustion. It is the moment of the year when researchers, operators, and the usual tribe of innovators gather to compare notes, test intuitions, and understand where the industry is actually heading. It is also the main Italian meeting ground for anyone working in digital tourism who wants real conversations rather than polite showcases.

25hours Hotel The Trip gets a redesign
At 25hours Hotel The Trip, large parts of the public areas have been redesigned as part of a six-month process. Particular attention was paid to the lobby and reception area with its adjoining shop, the new Nomad Day Bar and the inner courtyard. The “Library of the Lost Countries” has also been rearranged. Michael Dreher, who originally developed the 152-room hotel under the motto “Around the world in a day”, was once again responsible for the design and project management. Together with local tradesmen, the individual areas were gradually adapted during ongoing operations without significantly affecting the well-being of guests or hotel operations.

Earlier this week, I found myself at Expedia Group’s Roman offices, seated across from Elisa Ragno for Guess the Guest. The plan, at least on paper, was simple: talk about AI and hospitality. What happened instead was closer to a dérive, a drift across the borderlands where travel, technology, and human complexity leak into each other. Elisa had the admirable courage to ask real questions and the even greater courage to let me answer them without a safety net.
